Tutoring is something I could talk about for hours. As a child, I struggled with maths, yet I always enjoyed explaining it to others in a way they could understand. My biggest inspiration came from teachers and tutors who never gave up on me. Their support made me want to become a foundation phase teacher, but when I was waitlisted for university, I turned to tutoring in my community instead.
Since joining K2u, I’ve discovered a deep love for maths I never had before. More than the subject itself, I cherish the bonds I’ve built with my students. Each of them learns differently, and I find it fascinating to adapt my teaching methods to suit their needs. They are all incredibly respectful and kind, which is a wonderful bonus in this line of work. The best part? I truly love my job.

Mathematics is special. It is poetry in numbers; it is logic, language, and art combined. Knowing that I am greated with the ability to do and understand mathematics changed how I viewed my own ability to learn. It changed me, and I have seen how it has changed others. The most amazing part of being a tutor is seeing how students grow in their confidence and understanding. Seeing how being diligent and focused help them grow into well developt individuals. All while learning an essential skill.
Being a tutor is more than teaching math. It is helping a student discover how amazingly capable they were created.
For me, being part of their journey has been very special. And I have enjoyed every moment.

As I reflect on my learning journey, I realize that I've always used the Feynman Technique to study. Even as a young student, I found myself teaching others and, in the process, solidifying my own understanding. This experience ignited a passion within me; a passion for sharing knowledge and uplifting others. I made it my mission to assist classmates during exam periods, breaking down complex concepts and empowering them to grasp the material. I firmly believe that teachers are amazing; they are who build a strong foundation for their students and help them grow. Like builders, they carefully construct a framework of knowledge, laying the groundwork for future generations. I feel fortunate to be able to interact with learners and peers, sharing my own knowledge and witnessing the growth of those around me.

I discovered my love for teaching when I was in Grade 12. I saw myself being an Afrikaans and Business Studies teacher because it's the subjects I loved the most in high school. I knew I would be a great teacher because I have the qualities. I have never thought nor pictured myself being a maths teacher, let alone pure maths. Now that I am part of K2U I feel confident that I have the power in me to change the problems we are having in schools, which is mainly maths. This opportunity increased my passion for teaching because I will now be a part of fixing the problem.
I would wholeheartedly love to be a tutor mainly because I am coming with a solution to the problems that we have in our education system. Never have I thought I would tutor Mathematics. I had lost interest in it a long time ago because I didn't seem to get it right, but this opportunity has shown me that I can.

I would like to be a tutor or teacher that makes a student's life better by helping them understand the content in their work and encouraging them to reach their full potential. Despite their circumstances, they have a brighter future ahead of them and I want to help make their lives better, build their confidence and independence to face challenges from the outside world.

I am passionate about numbers, but I noticed a gap among my peers, as many struggle with number-related subjects. To help address this, I started a study hub with my friends at school, which I now manage every day. Despite attending a disadvantaged school, we take initiative and work together to improve our understanding. Joining this program will not only benefit me but also my fellow schoolmates because I believe that, by working together, we can achieve more. This initiative allows me to sharpen my math skills while supporting others, as it is heartbreaking to see only a few students succeed in mathematics while many continue to struggle.
I have also participated in the Mathematics Olympiad, and this year, I entered the Eskom Science Expo with my project on mathematics, titled Making Number Cyclicity Fun for Everyone.

I love tutoring and have a passion for it, if I had a chance to choose a career of being a teacher I would. Additionally, I have some experience in tutoring as I was assisting my maths lit teacher, Miss Nkuna, whenever she was unavailable during her maths period/ exam sessions. I currently assist a few students with the modules I did for the past two years.

I have been tutoring for close to 3 years. My love for teaching accumulated when I was in grade 8 and more so, inspiring young minds and my peers about self discovery and career development. I have also confronted and overcome obstacles that have tested my capabilities and patience as a tutor; which have helped me grow in the space as an individual. So far I have been doing private tutoring. All my learners have been able to achieve great academical break throughs and mental maturity. I have worked with learners with low academic confidence and low self-esteem and I can say the look in their eyes as we engage and accomplish their short-term goals is priceless, I would not trade that for the world’s riches. Thank you for the opportunity and looking forward to working with you.
